Looking for upside
Dear Reader,
Thank you for allowing me to compete for your attention, one of the scarcest assets in today’s world. I will do my best not to squander it, but can’t, nay won’t, make any promises (yet).
Please allow me to introduce myself:
I identify as a former poker player, turned ‘corporate athlete’ (that’s what they branded it as), who then decided to leave his career behind and go through life in an increasingly nomadic way, one trade and one voyage at a time. Mindful and prudent about what I trade my time and energy for, my main goal in life is currently merely to look for ways/things/habits/ideas that have high upside & low downside potential to increase happiness, health and/or wealth in various ways and to share these ample findings and good intentions with you.
Small things, with a big impact. That asymmetry is the goal. You know, the stuff the educational system appears to have skipped out on and is now glaringly lacking in our society. That type of stuff.
Substack is the forum that will be used to share these ways/things/habits/ideas (and also lots of questions) with you. Topics will broadly include what the markets are up to, interesting concepts I come across while reading and travelling, my take on current events, potential rants about the corporate world, societal and technological trends, the underrated role of logic and risk in daily life and the benefits of transparency in decision making.
‘If there’s one thing I learned from videogames, it’s that when you meet new enemies, it means you’re moving in the right direction.’
A thought provoking quote, from a random teenage gamer. While the word ‘enemies’ in the sentence is of course not literally applicable, I do think that the internal resistance to start this blog that I have often felt absolutely means that it is the right path forward for me, and will hopefully allow inspiration to flourish.
I look forward to sharing my journey with you.
Nils
